Finally!
Our breakthrough came when we made contact with a Visalia Times-Delta Inspiration reporter, who has been very receptive in assisting us getting the word out about our events. Her first article about Friends included our history to date and our upcoming basket raffle and then a follow-up for our Mother's Day Silent Auction.
Getting the Word Out!
Difficulties are expected in any new venture, but Friends found letting the community know the group was back in business very difficult. The Foothill Sun-Gazette was very helpful in the beginning, but then an article was forgotten here and there, so a wider net needed to be cast.
Eventually headway was made with the Visalia Times-Delta. Paul Hurley was the first to help us out with small mentions in his Short & Sweet column. Our Mini Book Sales and our first Book Drive and many more made its way into his column.

Success at Last!
On September 9, 2014, Friends of the Library - Exeter held their first Board Meeting.
Our Humble Beginnings
Future Friends President, Sandra Marlow, had a huge collection of books, numbering in the thousands, that she could no longer keep in storage. It was after a book sale at her home, which still left her with thousands of books, that she remembered a conversation she'd had with Exeter Library Manager Marjorie Fly - the Exeter Library hadn't had a Friends group for at least a year or more.
Getting in touch with Majorie again began the process of starting a new Friends of the Library. First, however, Sandra had to jump through a few Tulare County hoops. An Interest Meeting had to be held to judge community interest while advising them at the same time a new Friends unit was being assembled.
With the help of The Foothill Sun-Gazette editor Reggie Ellis, that meeting took place on June 17, 2014, at the Exeter Library. With only one person attending the meeting, it was time for Sandra to reassess. Another meeting was held in July, which was much more successful, and Sandra had herself a Board of Directors.
